Yes, yes, yes, yes and …no. Dumb Ways to Die might have made advertising types gush, but it did not work. The number of young people dying or being injured from accidents on Victoria’s railways has actually increased since the campaign began. Nice creative is useless when it fails to affect its target audience, and this campaign has failed comprehensively. The metrics are bad, and sadly, in the cemeteries. Shame on all who conveniently ignore this and continue to gush about it.
I had no idea that this video was part of an ad campaign. My kids have been singing this song and playing this video for months. They are 11 and 12 years old and its a viral hit in their schools. Not sure if its messaging is on target, however.
